Summary :

For a variety of reasons, economics is playing an increasingly important role in all aspects of animal disease control, at all levels in society and in all corners of the world. This volume illustrates how this development has been part of a process to improve the quality of decisions on resource allocation to disease control interventions, be they from a farm, a national, a sponsor or a service provider perspective. In response to this demand, over the last twenty years a concerted effort has been made by a small group of veterinarians, economists, farmers and scientists to try to develop or improve economic impact assessment approaches and methodologies which enhance decision-making. There has been considerable progress in this area, as manifested by the series of eight published proceedings of the triennial meetings of the International Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics, by the seventeen proceedings of the annual gatherings of the Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, as well as by the numerous scientific papers published in Preventive Veterinary Medicine.
